However, infections of the temporomandibular joint are rare, and such case reports are rare. Recently we have experienced a case of suppurative arthritis of the temporomandibular joint that showed an unusual clinical course. The patient, a 35-year-old female, complained of trismus and swelling of the right pre-auricular region. In spite of repeated administrations of antibiotics (AB-penicillin etc.) the trismus and the swelling showed recurrences for 22 weeks, and finally an abscess formed in the pre-auricular region. Incision and drainage of the abscess was conducted which resulted in a rapid recovery. The pus sample was subjected to aerobic and anaerobic cultures, but the results were negative. Moreover, the source of infection was unknown. However, the clinical findings indicated suppurative arthritis of the temporomandibular joint.}, pages = {239--247}, title = {<臨床>稀な経過を辿った化膿性顎関節炎の1例}, volume = {3}, year = {1984} }
