This inhibitory effect was also observed in the absence of extracellular Ca^<2+>, indicating that the Ca^<2+> release from intracellular Ca^<2+> stores was prevented by ATP. Formation of inositol trisphosphate induced by CCh stimulation was strongly attenuated in the presence of extracellular ATP, suggesting that the effect of ATP on the CCh-induced [Ca^<2+>]_i response was the result of a decreased phosphoinositide hydrolysis. Extracellular ATP had no effect on the CCh-induced increase in [Ca^<2+>] j in rat lacrimal acinar cells that lack the purinergic receptors. This result supports the view that the inhibitory effect of ATP on the CCh-induced [Ca^<2+>]_i response in parotid acinar cells is mediated through activation of the purinergic receptros. In rat parotid acinar cells, the purinergic receptors may play a role in modulating the activity of muscarinic receptors.}, pages = {199--204}, title = {Inhibitory effects of extracellular ATP on the Ca^<2+> mobilization evoked by muscarinic stimulation in rat parotid acinar cells}, volume = {16}, year = {1997} }
