| 内容記述 | [Purpose] The purpose of this study is to investigate the presence of vessel−like structures as the contents in the lingual cortical bone defect of the mandible (LCBDM) using CT images, and to discuss the possibility that the vessel− like structures are involved in the formation of LCBDM. [Materials and methods] Subjects were CT images of 13 patients (7 males, 6 females) with LCBDM between October 2009 and June 2020. The soft tissue CT images were analyzed regarding 1) the presence of vessel−like structures within or adjacent to the LCBDM, 2) vessels connecting to the vessel−like structures, and 3) the presence of the similar vessel−like structures at the same site on the contralateral mandibular region. [Result ] Vessel − like structures were found in 12 cases (92.3%) within or adjacent to LCBDM, and were suspected in 1 case. The facial artery and the sublingual artery were connected to the vessel−like structures in 1 case, the facial arteries were connected to the vessel− like structures in 3 cases, and the sublingual artery was connected to the vessel−like structures in 1 case. In two cases, the facial arteries were suspected to connect to the vessel− like structures, and in 1 case, the sublingual artery was suspected to connect to the vessel−like structure. In 8 cases (61.5%), no similar vessel−like structures were observed at the same site on the contralateral mandibular region. [Conclusion] It was suggested that vessel−like structures may play some role in the formation of LCBDM. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
