内容記述 | Deterrence of inconsiderate behavior is one of the critical subjects our society faces. Recent research has suggested that expressing gratitude for not engaging in such behavior can effectively deter it. Additionally, presenting an eye figure has been shown to promote prosocial behavior. This study examined whether the effectiveness of presenting an eye figure and a gratitude message in deterring inconsiderate behavior depends on the level of general trust of respondents. The hypothesis was that gratitude messages would have a deterrent effect only among high trustors, while eye images would have a deterrent effect among both high and low trustors. In order to examine these hypotheses, we conducted an online vignette study, where respondents answered the likelihood of engaging in inconsiderate behavior and their level of general trust. There were four conditions: ( 1 ) a poster with a gratitude message is presented, ( 2 ) a poster with an eye image is presented, ( 3 ) no poster is presented, and ( 4 ) a poster with an instruction to engage in considerate behavior is presented. The results showed no difference in the degree of inconsiderate behavior between conditions. Thus, none of our hypotheses was supported. This negative result may be due to the floor effect caused by the problem of the scenario used in the current study. | |||||||||||||
