Leiomyosarcoma is a rare malignant smooth muscle tumor, typically found in areas like the uterus and gastrointestinal tract. Its occurrence in the oral cavity is extremely rare due to limited presence of smooth muscle in this region. We present a case of leiomyosarcoma of the mandible, possibly originated from intraosseous region, in a 90−year−old female who exhibited the swelling and tooth mobility. Imaging showed a radiolucent lesion, and biopsy confirmed leiomyosarcoma through histopathological findings and immunohistochemical staining positive for vimentin, SMA, and HHF−35. Additionally, we present a brief literature of 32 case reports on mandible leiomyosarcoma in this article, which revealed a broad age range (7−67 years), a slight female predominance, variable tumor sizes (1−18 cm), and frequent mandibular involvement. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges, significance of immunohistochemistry, and variable clinical presentations of this rare tumor, providing valuable insight into its clinical and histological characteristics. |
